*EMAILS OF THE WEEK…
>K,
I went to see Maya Angelou last night and thought MAYBE I could get her to sign the page of “..long strange strip..” that is about your encounter with her…the security guard said he couldn’t guarantee it’s return to me, but I really wanted her to see the comic so I just told him to take it (the page is marked). He asked for my business card (I gave him a T(ea) Gallery one) and that was it. [sniff]
She was fantastic.
I hope you’re having fun in Iowa.
Love,
T
(from my “Evil” Twin Sis…Hope she gets the book back!!-kk)
>Dear Keith,
I was so happy to read the K Chronicles and find out that you got that fab narration job. I about fell off my chair when I read the ‘and Sparks airs on Public Television, which I always wanted to be on when I was a kid….’ HOW MANY TIMES do I have to say to people “Come on! You remember Zoom? (Starts singing and dancing frantically …)Come on and zoom zoom zoom zoom zoom! Come on and zooma zooma zoom zoom zoom. You know…COME ON!” You don’t suppose it’s possible that Zoom only aired in Milwaukee (where I hail from…before moving to Scotland) and your hometown, do you? Have you ever experienced this ‘Missing Zoom’ phenomena before? Funny thing is, I have to go in on Wednesday of this week for abdominal surgery…not so fun. Add in a big packet of meds to ‘clear the abdomen and intestine’ and it sinks fun down where the sun can’t find it. Thanks to you, at least I’ll have a nice, albeit slightly altered theme song for all those trips to the loo. “I’m gonna zoom zoom zooma zoom. (add in adolescent sound effects where needed)” etc.
Have a great time with the new gig. I’ll try to catch it on the kqed site when I’m out of the hospital.
Take care Keef and and don’t forget all us little (th)ink and K fans when you start narrating all those posh Ken Burns docu-s!
A fellow Zoomer,
A.
(Zoom aired nationally, but was filmed in my necka da woods..at WGBH in Boston..-kk)
*CEDAR RAPIDS WRAP-UP..
My gig at Legion Arts and Cedar Rapids was fine and dandy. The workshops Mat and I did were attended by artists, teachers, students, concerned citizens and even elected officials!! It was our best workshops yet.
The gallery show opening was fun and well attended. No matter where I go, there’s a little slice of indie/nutty artistic folk doing their thing. And then the slideshow I did the next day was packed with about fifty high school students and more!! Thanks to everyone who came out, asked questions, and bought stuff..
Things went so well, we may be returning in the fall..I’ll let you know as soon as I know it.
The coolest thing about the trip was on the last day, we visited the African American History Museum of Cedar Rapids…And I gotta tell ya..THIS IS THE BEST AFRICAN-AMERICAN HISTORY MUSEUM I’VE EVER SEEN.. Now granted, I ain’t been to a lot of ’em..but this place was so well put together and visually cool that I had to talk it up. DEFINITELY GO BY THERE IF YOU’RE EVER ANYWHERE NEAR CEDAR RAPIDS..
(and yes, I didn’t know there were Black folks in Cedar Rapids, either..)
