*MY BOOKS SHOULD REMAIN IN THE TOILET, NO MATTER WHAT…

Hi Keith,

After reading your Wednesday strip at salon.com for a couple of years, it was great to finally meet you and your wife at Comic- Con last Saturday. You’re so down-to-earth and easy to talk to, and I wanted to thank you for taking the time to chat. I’ve been enjoying the Beginner’s Guide to Community-based Arts, and have been kicking around some ideas for how I can get more involved. I’ve had to take What a Long Strange Strip It’s Been out of my bathroom because my friends keep trying to take it with them. I’m pushing them to order their own copies.

Take care and keep up the great work–

–v.

*EARTHQUAKE!!
Woo..Just had a 4.4 roll through San Francisco. I’ve never been in a bad one, but I’ve been around enough people who have, so I’m always quick to head for cover…

*A NEW (TH)INK COLLECTION IS COMING SOON!!
I’m putting it together as we speak. It’s gonna be called “Are We Feeling Safer Yet?” and it collects the best of my single panel strip from late 2003 until now. What’s different this time is I’ll be publishing myself, through my own SheepInnaToilet Press.

It’ll be available in the Fall EXCLUSIVELY through my website..and won’t hit stores til the end of the year..So figure out who needs a good comic smack in da head and order a few come da holidaze..Okay?

*HEY!! IF ANYBODY WATCHES THE T.V. SHOW “ROCKSTAR:SUPERNOVA”..
..Ex-San Francisco Rock Goddess Storm Large is on there and it looks like she may win. She deserves it. She was one of the most talented performers I’ve ever had the pleasure of sharing the stage with. When we first met, she picked me up, threw me over her shoulder and carried into this club, threw me down and demanded I dance with her. ‘Nuff said. Vote for this force of nature.

*EXPECT SOME MARGINAL PROPHET REMIXES IN THE NEAR FUTURE..
And mebbe even A SHOW!!

Cheers!

EMAILS OF THE WEEK (concerning the San Diego Comic-Con and my Life’s Little Vics in New Orleans strip)…

>Thanks for your latest comic. That’s the most accurate one anyone’s done about this city since the storm. Add to the list: the grocery store’s open, then the store’s open at night, then it’s open late at night, then hey, there are no piles of debris on my street. Victories such as this give us hope.

R. in New Orleans

>Keith,

I wanted to take the opportunity to thank you for my “Life’s Little Victory”. I’m sorry I missed you later on, and could not thank you personally, but we kept missing you when we went by your table. You did an excellent job, and I am pleased to own another piece of your work. (last year we bought a drawing you did of a baby drinking a Triple Latte…) My Little Victory will be framed and placed near the computer where I saved the thesis right before the power went out.

I am really proud to have this piece of art. Thanks again!

Cheers!

W

>Keef,

It was good to get a chance to meet you at Comic-Con. I was the short guy with the goatee and 15 year old son you talked with for a bit about New Orleans on Sat. afternoon. You gave my son one of your “shadow government” stickers and he loved that and I got a copy of “What A Long Strange Strip It’s Been”. Anyway … talking with you gave me a couple of “Life’s Little Victories” moments:

1. You go to Comic-Con and run across one of your favorite comic artists, who you didn’t expect to be there, and he’s a nice guy!
2. You go to Comic-Con and run across one of your favorite comic artists and you don’t go all fan-boy on him.
and unrelated to meeting you:
3. You go to Comic-Con and find a comic that you loved as a kid and it’s only $2.50!

I’ll be looking to see you again next year and thanks for reminding me that there are still liberals out there (living in Orange County, CA, it is sometimes easy to forget).

S.

*SAN DIEGO COMIC-CON WRAP-UP..
Or should i say “Rap-Up”? Shook hands with one of my favorite folks in Hip-Hop, Mr. Chuck D of Public Enemy, when he walked by my table in the small press section at the Con. Not totally sure, but he seemed to know who I was…Wow.

Also, as we were waiting to get on the elevator after checking in at our swanky (free!) hotel. Snoop Dogg strolled off the elevator with about 8 dudes. Rock!!

Other celeb sightings: That comedian that was on “the Show”, and did that comedy tour documentary show with Patton Oswalt and Zach Garafilnakis (I can’t spell his name for the life of me)..One of the Wayans Bros. on the street with some white chick trying to jump on him. Also, in L.A.: Cuba Gooding Jr. at Kinko’s talking about thongs and pancake batter and former Laker/Celtic/Mr. Vanessa Williams Rick Fox on Venice Beach…

The Comic-Con is a completely different animal now compared to just a few years ago. 120,000 people. It’s big-time Hollywood….But it’s still really great. The place was packed even on Wednesday’s Preview Night, which used to be a time when the exhibitor could go around the floor and check out some of the stuff before the public does. Not any more.

The new bigger, stronger, sexier canvas bags were a big hit!! And the new 2007 calendars were snapped up, too. Look for both on the site soon…

But the biggest hit was the Beginner’s Guide to Community-Based Arts. Sold out of ’em. folks couldn’t get enough of ’em. I caught somebody in the bathroom doing things with the Beginner’s Guide in (left) hand.

Highlights:
-Maine Lobster night at Ye Ole Madrid with Garrett Izumi and Stevie Notley (Behold! the Grassy Knoll!)
-Swanky free hotel room at the Omni!!
-Some 6.6 dude with the ultimate Chewbacca costume, lifting tiny children up on his shoulder for pictures (Made me wish I was a kid again!!)
-Hangin’ with Kyle Baker
-Somebody suggesting I put my public access T.V. show, Bruno MacPush, on DVD!!
