*I AM NOT GOING TO WRITE A THING TIL GAME 7 IS FINISHED.
*REVIEW OF LIVE MARGINAL PROPHETS EP:
Dead Hippie Bootleg by The Marginal Prophets [link]. This live CD leans more towards the funk side of Keith Knight’s band than the rock side. When I saw them play, it was the reverse, but here, at least, I can focus a bit more on their lyrics. On the one hand, you’ve got songs like “Gunz’n’Money” that talk about the subculture of violence and its insidious nature. On the other, you’ve got songs like “Best Lover,” which happily espouses the virtues of self-pleasuring. It all adds up to a mighty sweet-sounding groove – any band that can name-drop Rosencrantz and Guildenstern and The 400 Blows in their rhymes is worth listening to. B+

*EMAILS OF THE WEEK (including the woman who wrote the above report!!:
Keef! I read your strip today and I would like to say this should be pass around or (with your permission) distribute to us minorities to let them know that the Fascist (RNC – state and national) are screwing with our votes. They are violating our constitutional rights as Americans that our ancestors fought for in our 228 years of this country existence. My father took a bullet in Iwo Jima so us American can have the right to have the freedom, but the Fascist are planning to eroding our country. FIGHT THE POWER!!!!
Sincerely,
Pablo
Dear Keith,
Pardon the familiarity, but I’ve loved your strip ever since I found it in Salon years ago.
I wrote the PFAWF/NAACP report, “Long Shadow of Jim Crow,” and I just had to tell you how giddy it made me to see my work reflected in your strip! In fact, I nearly fell off my chair when I checked your strip last Wednesday. I was expecting a clandestine moment of recreation with my morning coffee, but instead I found a reason to run around to all my colleagues and bounce around with glee. Don’t tell anyone else that my priorities so are out of whack, but that made it all worthwhile. (Yes, yes, protecting voting rights is very important to me too.)
Anyway, thanks for making me feel like a rock star!
Cheers!

Keef,
My son and I really enjoyed your appearance at the Mill Valley Library. Your insights into how to get into the comics biz, our little and not so little irrationalites, and the hazards/hilarities of being an African-american were educational to us.
Your censorship experiences were a revelation!
Please keep up your edu-tainment ventures, and I promise to listen at least during February.
