ditto. I am sick of worrying more about the sons of my African American friends than son of my friends who are not African American – it makes my heart sick. Zimmerman hiding behind the preposterous notion that he could not bre racist because he is half-Peruvian adds insult to injury, as though your ehtnic background makes you immune from stupidity and hate – racism and prejudice know no color, but they sure use color – sick irony
This is really going to test the Florida law that allows you to kill someone you think is a threat.
Zimmerman considered him so great a threat that he tracked him down to kill him.
I believe in self defense, but calling 911 and then ignoring what the Police told him to do is not self defense.
Great Commentary….To me the it is tragic there are still people out there that see every “hoodie” black kid as a threat, but hopefully they are the fewer and fewer. To me the real crime is the Sanford Police department. How can they not arrest this man? He just killed an unarmed kid!!! Sadly you know if the kid was white, the guy would have been arrested. I hope the whole department is replaced.
When this law was passed, commentators around the state warned of this. But the gun nuts said “Naw, it’ll make evreything hunky-dory.” Our legislators are terrified of the followers of NRA lobbyist Marion Hammer, the Granny Clampett of Tallahassee. A similar incident happened some months ago in the Tampa Bay area, the father of a kid playing basketball with his kid was gunned down by a cranky neighbor who came out of his house to complain about teh noise. The cops let him go, too!
Want more irony? The guy who pushed the law in the Florida House is an undertaker. Talk about conflict of interest!
I keep thinking I should approach a legislator outside one of the bars on the Adams Street Commons (an area of bars that stay open past 2 a.m. for their influential customers, and of priivate clubs). If he tries to push past me, I could whip out a water balloon and a bag of flour, and “stand my ground.”
It doesn’t get much sadder than that.
