I thought this was a great joke and then was surprised and appalled to hear it’s for real??? I KNEW there was a reason I quit watching TV. Thanks, Keef, I get all my current events from the funnies! Only slightly stranger than the news, and probably a lot more truthful.
But, yes, I watched one of these one time, for a home makeover in my corner of the country. It started with a noisy, ostentatious display of wanton destruction, with the house, and everything in it, being smashed by a power shovel. Toilets and sinks that could have been removed and used elsewhere? Smashed to pieces. Windows? Smashed. Lumber and plywood? Smashed.
I guess that gratifies the mob, sort of like demolition derby or like the Romans filling the Colleseum with water to have mock navy battles between galleys filled with slaves so they could watch some saps drown. But as someone who was raised a New England Yankee and an ardent conservationist, the waste was appalling. And the waste is a prelude to “Buy Buy BUY!!” more stuff.
“AAAIIIIGGHHH! You threw away my belly-lint collection!”

This was kind of weird…which means I like it.

Tom: And how much of their new stuff obviously would need far more maintenance or supplies, than the stuff they had before?
