My gay stepson and I did not always get along perfectly, but for about a year, he paid the rent for a family whose head had found himself in prison on a drug charge. He had no connection with the family, except that they were related to his partner. He did not make a lot of money. His younger brothers, both of whom are straight, would not have been capable of doing such a selfless thing. Who had access to a moral compass?
Thank you for poignantly presenting your personal account of a human being who died too young. You loved your cousin. I don’t know your theological beliefs, nor do I care what they are (or aren’t). The love is the thing…
We had my uncle Leland, who also fell victim to AIDS in the days when the drugs weren’t as good as they are now. He grew spectacular orchids and was a very kind guy. I miss him too.
Nice tribute, Keith. I think Gene would be pleased (as well as getting a good laugh.)

I remember this the first time it ran. It was beautiful then and it is beautiful now.
What a wonderful tribute. Excellent work, sir.
I’m glad you had somebody like that, Keith, and I’m sorry you lost him.
What a lovely piece of work. Bravo.
Snnnf. Thanks. My family had a Vince. I still miss him like crazy.
We have a Candice (transgender) and I love her forever!!! She is my Gene!!! Thank you, Keith
