In my novel, “The Christmas Mutiny”, one of the characters hears Schiller’s “Ode to Freedom” (more often sung as the less-political “Ode to Joy”) and suddenly notices how profound an idea it actually is, to say “All men are brothers”.
I had the pleasure of discussing it with my eight-year-old the other week. he actually had never heard the saying before, and ridiculed it at first, but I had the pleasure of seeing the light of comprehension dawn in his eyes as he actually “got” it.
Readers, are you all entirely sure you “get” it? Try saying “All men are brothers” out loud, and imagine you are hearing it for the first time….
Give God my regards, the next time you see him!

They used to say that God is an American. I wonder if anyone still believes that?
