*EMAILS OF THE WEEK:
Mr, K,

My folks visited me (500 mile trip each way) twice in 15 years. The second time, they had car trouble on the way home and sent me the bill for their car repairs.

Go figure.

(name withheld)

Mr. Knight,

I love your strip and have been reading it in Salon for years. Keep up the good work…

Anyhow, I think I can beat your relatives not visiting story, even though mine doesn’t involve cross-country travel. In 2000 my family moved from the west side of the St. Louis metropolitan area to the east side of the metro, to Belleville, Illinois. It is a grand total of 60 miles, one way. In the ensuing five years my mother has visited TWICE and two sisters and one brother have visited ONCE. When I asked my mother one year why nobody wanted to come to my house for Christmas she replied that “Oh, they couldn’t possibly drive that far…”

After that I’ve never gone to see any of them. eff ‘em.

Regards,

(name withheld)

*YEAH, YEAH, YEAH, I MISSED A WEEK…
sorry about that , folks..las vegas and the anniversary took a lot outta me…but i’m back just in time for my mom to visit this weekend!!

vegas was a great time. special thanks to 5ive finger miscount master iceberg slick. tons of folks came through, buying books and prints. chatting up me and my pops.

extra special thanks to my pops who stood there for close to six hours(!)..he was quite a trooper. i also came out ten bucks ahead as far a my gambling went (blackjack).

*UPCOMING:
hey!! i’m moderating this really cool panel on humor writing at 826 valencia this weekend!! it’s on sunday, aug. 21st at 4pm. folks on the panel include monologist/author josh kornbluth, comedian will durst, cartoonist don asmussen and bad girl cameron tuttle. it’s gonna kick ass. it’s part of their adult seminar program and is a must for folks who are serious about funny writing. it’s three hours for $100. 826 valencia st. in san francisco.

*EMAIL OF THE WEAK:
Hi Keith —

I really do like your stuff, but your obvious inability to resist playing the race card at every opportunity serves you poorly, at least with me.

I don’t like your work because of your race; I like it because you produce really funny and clever comics. Your frequent stressing of race differences does nothing at all for me, and I think it’s one more contribution to the ongoing racial dissonance we all suffer here in America. Ask me, I’d say the non-white people are now more responsible for sustaining racial division here than are the white folk, and I’m sorry, but I include you in that assessment.

Best regards,
*****

(i guess i’d better stop writing about who i am..i don’t want to offend this person’s sensibilities!! -kk)

in my mix:
-cindy sheehan
-“grizzly man”
-toronado bar’s 18th anniversary party! free food!! free beer!! woo hoo!!

Cheney Orders STRATCOM To Prepare Nuclear Attack
Against Iran
Politcal activists and observers have sent out a
“world wide red alert’ in response to what they called
Cheney’s “Hitler-like” state of mind.
July 28, 2005

By Greg Szymanski

A number of political observers and activists today
sounded ‘a red alert’ after reports surfaced this week
Vice President Dick Cheney directly ordered Strategic
Command (STRATCOM) to make contingency plans for a
nuclear strike against Iran in the aftermath of
another ‘9/11 type attack’ on America.

Cheney’s orders first surfaced in an article by Philip
Geraldi in the Aug 1, 2005, issue of The American
Conservative. Geraldi was unavailable for comment, but
excerpts of the article went on to say:

“Vice President Cheney’s office has specifically told
the Pentagon that the military should be prepared for
an attack on Iran in the immediate aftermath of
“another 9-11.” That’s “not conditional on Iran
actually being involved in the act of terrorism
directed against the United States,” notes Geraldi’s article.

(see you in vegas!! -keef)

*WHAT?!! A NEW KEITH KNIGHT BOOK COMING IN OCTOBER?!!

yes..but this isn’t the usual collection of comics. this is a project that i’ve been working on for FIVE YEARS!! it’s called “the beginners’s guide to community-based arts”(new village press). and it’s kinda like a dummies guide for anyone interested in working with art and artists to tackle community issues and problems.

what’s nice about this book is that it’s something you haven’t seen from me before. it’s a bit more “serious”. i basically took stories that my buddy mat schwarzman culled from community-based artists from all across the country, and made them into multi-page comic strips.

but i wasn’t the only one. seattle cartoonist ellen forney and paint/graphic designer christine yap also got busy with it. and the result is really, really cool.

this book is a must-have for anyone involved with the arts, community-activism, or working with the leaders of tomorrow.

the book will be available at kchronicles.com by the end of august.

for a sneak peek & more info, check out this website: www.xroadsproject.org

*GO SEE “MURDERBALL”!!
this is the movie i talked about when i returned from sundance earlier this year. it’s about quadraplegic rugby players.

before you say “huh?” let me state that this is the only film i’ve ever seen on www.rottentomatoes.com that has gotten a 100% rating…it’s that good..that’s all i’ll say.

*I HOPE YOU ALL ARE COMING TO SEE ME IN LAS VEGAS ON AUG. 5TH..

..at first fridays. i’ll be doing a coupla slideshows at the five finger miscount gallery. my work will be up in their gallery for the month, so come on by. (it’s only 115 degrees!!) the address is in the calendar section of this website.

*I’LL BE DOING SPX IN SEPTEMBER!!

just confirmed…i’ll be doing my slideshowthis year. i also hope to be doing philly and baltimore. please email me some non-bookstore venues in these two cities where i might be able to do my thing.

ciao!!
