Boom!  Here it is!   My Youtube video debut happens today! Get your butt over to thy Youtube channel and watcheth thy piece.  Then posteth thy link and telleth all thy  friends!

In all seriousness, I’m very excited to be finally posting a live-action comedy piece.  It has all the elements of your average Keith Knight cartoon (race, humor), and it’ll probably get me in trouble.  It was amazing how easy it came together considering all the elements involved.  I’d like to thank everyone who helped out, and hope this is the first of many.

As far as the subject matter, let’s just say I think that PBS’s Antique Roadshow is the epitome of white privilege in America.  You’d be hard-pressed to find any people of color on it, because people of color weren’t allowed to own anything previous to 1960!!

Let me know what you think, and don’t forget to subscribe to my cartoon Round Table Subscription Service, it keeps me drawing comics and making videos!!

KEEF ON TOTALLY BIASED IN OCT!!

Great news!  Your most humble gentleman cartoonist is going to be interviewed on the FXX hit show Totally Biased with W.Kamau Bell next month!!  So psyched about this because Kamau and I go way back to my San Francisco days..even did a show with him at the now defunct legendary comedy club the Purple Onion.

Bad news!  I gotta pay for my flight out there.

Great news!  All I need are ten more subscribers to the Keith Knight Round Table Cartoon Subscription service!  Right now, members are getting the inside skinny on a national commercial the Knight family shot a few weeks back, that should be airing starting the next week or two.

Subscribe you fools!!  Right here.

EMAILS/LETTERS OF THE WEEK

Just wanted to say how much I love your work.  I’m pretty selective about the internet things that I join.  But I was more than happy to join your Round Table.  You’re one of the sites I visit every day in the hopes of something new.  Right now money is a bit tight, but I hope to rejoin at a higher level in the future when feeling a bit more flush.

I was so excited when I read one of your comics ages ago that referenced “The Squire” and other sites in the East Boston/Revere zone.  I’ve lived in the Metro Boston area for the past 28 years and currently live in Winthrop.  I was like, “Oh, I know exactly where he was.” (But not in a stalker-y way.)

Also, my mother loved the comic with the lap cat who likes to suckle.  She has a cat that likes to suckle her nightgowns.  When I sent her the link to your comic, she wrote back immediately (in all CAPS), “HOW DID YOU FIND THAT?!?!”

Anyway, thanks for doing what you do.

M.

————————————————————-

I just recently discovered your work. I work at the dollar general and I was moving some books around and I saw a comic for only a buck. Skeptical at first, I saw one of the critics comments “blah blah Calvin and Hobbes blah blah”. I immediately bought it solely because something said Calvin and Hobbes. You see, my favorite written/drawn material of all time is Calvin and Hobbes. Therefore I knew it was an alright idea to buy it. I read it that night, Chivalry ain’t dead is which book it was. Then I got on Amazon and bought The Complete K Chronicles. I’m halfway through it and I love it so far. I like your sense of humor, without regard and with a purpose. You’re a cool dude Keef, keep it up.

————————————-

Dear Keith,  I hate the N-word.   I have used it in the past and regretted it.  Won’t do it again.  However listen to this true story.
My Son is  half Filipino half white.   He looks like an Indian (from India, not Native American).   He came home from school when he was 10 years old and said “Dad what’s N….r mean?”
“Why do you want to know”
“Someone called me that at school today”
“Who?!!!”
“Juvonte”
“Wait–isn’t Juvonte black?”
“yes”
“What did he say-what happened?”
“We were standing in line at lunch and Juvonte pointed to me and JD (half black /half white kid) and himself   said
‘I’m a n—r, your a n—r , and he’s a n—r-We all n—rs”
“Oh ” I said.
I tried my best to explain it all to him -but he was only 10 yrs old, and was nodding, but I could tell he was very confused.   He’s 17 now and understands it better.
Sometimes I just think God is laughing at me.
I am aware of the privilege that white skin male  brings me .   How ever I get profiled too.  On election day 2012 at a Wendy’s  a guy leaned over to me and said–“Glad we’re getting our country back today aren’t you?
I said “Oh you voted for Obama too–awesome!”–I wish I had said that – I wasn’t prepared for it.  I said something like “no matter who our president is it’s our country”.

I am so ashamed of the Supreme Court Decision and  The Zimmerman case.  I agree with Maya Angelou when she says not only Black people but all people mourn these blatant racist moves/decisions. It hurts our country’s  “integrity”.

I wish I could do more to make our country less racist,  any suggestions? (no– sending black cartoonists $1000’s of dollars doesn’t count!)
Keep up the good work
-Best B.
(it has been scientifically proven that sending me millions of dollars will cure this nation of its racial ills. -kk)

Sir,
I respectfully submit that you’ve splattered my spleen. The line that kills me…..
“Question: Is it wrong to pay one of my sons’ schoolmates to kick his ass? Listen, I’d do it myself…” Holy God, I thought I was gonna hurl (lol!). Dude, you are too much. I wish you all the success you so obviously deserve. My name is Lee Davis, and I’m a (forcibly ported) fellow author on iBuzzle (from Buzzle originally). But I just can’t seem to get it together ‘cuz I just keep getting caught out there by those dazzlingly witty (and just plain snot-outta-nose funny) comics. I cain’ take it, mayne (lol!).
Respect…..
L.

PS: D.I.M. ? You killin’ a man wit’ that (lol!)
————————————————————————————–

Hi, Keith,

I’m still enjoying your strip after all these years. Just found your anthology and love catching up with everything I missed.

I thought you’d like to know that your “Life’s Little Victories” bit inspired my Rosh Hashanah (Jewish New Year) message this year.  Thanks so much — I hope you enjoy!
B’vrachot (with blessings)
Justin

YOU KNOW THAT FEELING YOU GET WHEN YOU SUDDENLY SEE A GREAT PARKING SPOT, YOU PULL IN WITH NO TIME TO WASTE…AND THERE’S ALREADY TIME ON THE METER?
OR WHEN YOU HAVE TO SPRINT THROUGH THE AIRPORT TO ARRIVE AT YOUR GATE COMPLETELY WINDED BUT YOU MAKE YOUR FLIGHT AFTER ALL?
OR WHEN YOU FIND A JAR OF PEACHES FROM LAST SUMMER’S FARMERS’ MARKET IN THE BACK OF THE FREEZER – AND THEY TASTE JUST AS GOOD AS YOU REMEMBER?
OR MAYBE WHEN SOME JERK IN AN EXPENSIVE SPORTS CAR CUTS YOU OFF – AND THREE MINUTES LATER YOU SEE HIM PULLED OVER BY THE SIDE OF THE ROAD?
MOMENTS LIKE THAT ARE “LIFE’S LITTLE VICTORIES.” ANYTHING THAT MAKES YOU PUMP YOUR FIST AND SAY “YES!” IS A LITTLE VICTORY.  I’LL BET THAT EACH AND EVERY ONE OF US CAN THINK OF A LITTLE VICTORY OF OUR OWN.  SO, WHY DON’T WE BEGIN OUR ROSH HASHANAH, OUR NEW YEAR, ON A POSITIVE NOTE? I’LL INVITE EVERYONE TO TAKE A MOMENT AND JUST THINK ABOUT YOUR OWN LITTLE VICTORY. WHATEVER IT WAS; IT CAN BE SMALL – IN FACT, THE SMALLER THE BETTER. (FEW SECONDS PAUSE)…IN FACT, WHEN YOU’RE READY, JUST GIVE A LITTLE FIST PUMP AND QUIET “YES!” : )

(how cool is that?!!!-kk)

The 20th Anniversary Original Art Sale continues!!  Thanks to everyone who has scored a K Chronicles/(th)ink and/or Knight Life piece.

But wait!  There’s more!!

I’ve also got MAD Magazine pieces, misfires that never made it to print, poster and cover designs, etc. This week’s featured piece is one I did for the zine Rad Dad!  I don’t think it was ever used, and I can kinda see why:

But it’s a cool drawing and only sez “Rad Dad” if you hold it up to a mirror..HOW COOL IS THAT?!!

I’ll be recognized for my brilliance when I’m dead.

For sale, 81/2×11, black ink on bristol.  Email me at keef@kchronicles.com to put dibs on it!

*SAN DIEGO COMIC-CON NEWS

I’m slated for my usual spot in Small Press this year, but due to the expanse of my family, I’m looking for some folks to cover the booth for me at different times throughout the con.  If you’re interested, hit me up at keef@kchronicles.com

I also somehow missed getting the Nappy Hour on the schedule, though I’m high on the waiting list.

*KICKSTARTER ZINE!!

Pretty psyched about the Kickstarter zine I put together.  Did it completely old school, all by hand, as part of my 20th year celebration.  As I was copying it at Kinko’ s(Fed Ex Office), I even ran into the usual type of photocopying nuts that I used to run into back in the day (I’m sure they said the same about me!)  Anyway, everyone who has ordered a copy, let me know how yer campaigns go, and how the zine helped.  Cheers!

*LETTERS/EMAILS OF THE WEEK:

Keith –

Congratulations on 20 years! Your cartoons are always thoughtful, witty, or poignant, and often all three. Even though our politics sometimes differ, I think we have the same goals (fairness, justice for all), and you’re a lot more evenhanded than most folks. K Chronicles and Knight Life are both in my top 20 daily reading list. I love the recent introduction of family life–and seriously, what other strip has a character like the Masked Maggot (TM)? :-)

In addition, your tribute to your great Uncle (Owen–kk) was deeply touching. May his character forever shine through you and your son.

Here’s to 20 more years!

– M.

Segregated proms? On 2013? That’s some fucking weird shit.

Btw- nothing like retiring to the balcony to light up a spliff and read the big-ass “The K Chronicles”. Big fan! Congrats on your 20th anniversary with comics!

regards from buenos aires

——————————————

I’ve loved seeing my life in your comics and the differences between our lives in your comics, over the years.  I’m a white woman, you’re a black man.  I moved to San Francisco in in 1991, married in 2005 and had a kid in 2007, who was known as pork chop, while in utero (I think he was born before your son, so we weren’t copying you).  You’re an artist, I’m a scientist.  We both spent a lot of time in shared apartments in SF.  We are both in financially perilous professions.  (Federal funding for research isn’t plummeting quite as fast as the readership of newspapers, but schools graduate more biologists than cartoonists.)  I have most of your books (will get the incredible cuteness soon!)  and read your comics on the web.

Thank you very, very much for continuing to put your strips out.  You are damned good at what you do and I truly appreciate your art and world view!

Yours,

S.

—————————————–

Hey Keef ,

I’m a long-time reader and big-time fan of The Knight Life.  But I
have to say that I felt ripped off by your Sunday comic today 5/19.
Pretty much the only reason I subscribe to the right-wing Boston
Herald, aside from the sports section, is to read your comic.  And I
expect 6 fun-filled panels from you every Sunday.

Imagine my disappointment this morning at only finding 5 panels!  And
what’s worse is that you didn’t even make one of the panels a
double-wide, you just kind of centered the bottom two  and left a
bunch of white space on the sides.

At first I thought the Herald had lost one of the panels and was
going to complain to them.  But then I realized that there were no
lines missing from the joke (dental floss – ha, ha) and this clearly
was a case of the artist trying to get away with shoddy workmanship!

This is not New York Mr. Knight , this is Boston.  As you know, w e
have a proud cartoonist tradition here and I am shocked, nay
outraged, that you would try to perpetrate such a heinous act upon
an unsuspecting populace .  Think of all the children you’ve
disappointed with your careless act!   Ahh, screw the children, what
about me and my feelings?!?!

In short Keef , you owe me a panel !

Or I’ll take a beer.  But a good beer, not like a Bud Light.

Thanx for listening,

G.

( Ah!  My syndicate must’ve cut the panel where the Sheepshead bites
Gunther’s privates  off..

It’ll be on the uncut DVD!-kk)
