*RANT FROM WEBMASTER & #1 FANBOY, ROBERT:

Mr. Knight,

So, how come the Republicans are SO much better when it comes to dirty tricks?

Attached are the “memos” which supposedly were written in 1972. This was, of course, before your time.

It was also BEFORE WORD PROCESSORS! Any moron knows that in 1972, a memo typed in a National Guard installation would have used COURIER and looked like a goddamn typewritten memo.

It would NOT have used Times Roman. It would NOT be proportionally spaced. And it sure as hell wouldn’t have had superscripts.

Whoever created these memos is an idiot. And the “experts” at CBS who corroborated it should be strung up by their lower case descenders and apostrophed to death.

And don’t even get me started on Dan Rather (“people keep getting sidetracked by the details and ignore the story”). Hello, Dan? The memos ARE the fucking story! Without the memos, there IS no story! And the memos are fakes!

It’s like showing up with a typewritten letter from George Washington and saying, “Well, it sounds like his writing, so it must be real!”

Yeesh.

Robert

*BY THE WAY, EVERYBODY..

don’t let the corporate media reports about bush’s sure-to-be re-(s)election get you down. all thses polls and reports are a sham. the reality is that it’s even, and it’s all about turnout. if people turnout to vote, then bush is gone..simple as that.

just look at how little coverage the protesters in nyc got…there were HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF THEM..the rnc convention had empty seats up until bush’s time to speak, AND TICKETS WERE FREE.. yet, they wouldn’t dare show that, either.

we shall overcome…you gotta keep yer head up.

cheers,

keef

*CAUGHT PRINCE IN CONCERT LAST WEEK!!

oh man…great stuff..i felt like i was in high school again..

lots of folks sportin’ purple, and frilly shirts and lingerie…

what really made it cool were the parents who were bringing their kids with them. and the kids were way into it cuz prince is still goddamn hip.

the lights went down and the music went up whilst i was in line tryin’ ta score some margaritas..i left the line to head to my seat cuz i didn’t want to miss prince open with “musicology”..turns out it wasn’t prince making noise–

it was THE TIME!!

that’s right. morris day, jerome, jimmy jam, terry lewis..they were the unannounced opening act!! they broke out the classic jammies (“777-9311”, “cool”) and their purple rain hits. it was great..

prince has the tightest band (guest musician: maceo parker!!), plays the meanest guitar. if you are even slightly interested in rock or r&b music, you should check prince out.

my favorite jams that he played: “d.m.s.r.” (he changed the dirty lyrics, and it was cool), “alphabet street”, “controversy”, “pop life”, an acoustic version of “i wanna be your lover”..

*LETTERS O’ THE WEEK: concerning my adoption strip..

Touched another cord with this one, my friend…the thing with me n’ Kate is not when folks ask “So when are you two having kids?”, but rather when we answer WHEN HELL HOSTS THE STANLEY CUP they say “Oh – gee whiz, whyever not?”

First off, it’s none of their beeswax why not, and second, there are at LEAST as many reasons not to breed as there are to do so…and in my opinion, lots reasons to have kids are as selfish as parents sometimes try to make us feel for NOT squeezing out puppies of our own. As if not giving up our free time, social lives, career paths, ability to walk around the house nekkid and drunk all the time is a BAD THING.

Rant over. Nice comic. You go girl.

E. Chris

Hi there! I wanted to drop you a note letting you know that I loved your cartoon about people asking you when you’re going to have kids. I completely feel where you’re coming from, as I used to get that asked of me all the time when I was with my ex-fiancé. It amazes me how people who barely know me can feel entitled to demand a reason why I’m 25 and not a single mother, as though contributing to the over-population of the planet through the addition of a kid who will be highly prone to hereditary medical problems (including cancer, diabetes, and mental diseases) is some kind of blessing. I told someone all of that once and their response was, “That’s what medication is for.” Mention adoption and that’s asking for ignorant comments as well. I love it when people tell me that “it’s not the same as having your own.” Well, that’s part of the point, isn’t it? I don’t have to go through such pleasant experiences as morning sickness and buying a new wardrobe that I’ll only wear for a few months before it’s both oversized and out-dated. I won’t be in the hospital screaming for a needle in my back and screaming in pain, nor will I have to face the very severe risks that I am prone to if I become pregnant due to my own diabetes. “You won’t love them as much as if you had them yourself. They’re not your own flesh and blood.” I usually bite my tongue on this one because I am in a very rural part of the deep South, where at least 65% of all the regional stereotypes are guaranteed true, and my argument of, “So does that mean you don’t love your husband as much as you do your brother because he’s not your own flesh and blood? Oh, wait, never mind . . .” would probably get me beaten up. :)

Jenn

cheers!

*UPDATE ON APPEARANCES:

unfortunately, due to a prior commitment, i will NOT be tabling at this weekend’s “power to the peaceful” concert at speedway meadow in golden gate park. so ignore the appearance listed on the calendar page.

but that don’t mean you shouldn’t attend the event…it’s gonna kick ass.

also..the marginal prophets will NOT be performing on sept. 22nd, during my appearance on kqed’s fundraising show. it’ll be just me.

*RED SOX RULE!! (at least until the inevitable curse hits in october)

just attended the oakland a’s/red sox game on monday where the umpire totally blew a call, screwing the a’s over. ‘course, all us sox fans (who practically outnumbered a’s fans at the oakland coliseum) didn’t mind. but it started to get ugly after a few fights broke out in the stands and another disputed call went down, causing a’s fans to shower the field with bottles and debris. me and my homies quietly left the stadium at that point.

_what is up with officiating, by the way? did you see that call during serena’s match at the u.s. open?

*LOOKING FOR VENUES IN NEW YORK, PROVIDENCE, AND BOSTON..

..to do my slideshow at in november. i’m looking for a space that isn’t a bookstore. maybe a gallery and/or community space that is easy to get to. email me if you have any ideas…

cheers!
