*HOWDY FOLKS!! KEEP THOSE HOLIDAY ORDERS COMING!!

but keep in mind that i cannot guarantee that’ll it’ll reach you by the 25th, although we be tryin’

man…i wish i could really enjoy all the parties, but i’ve been neck-deep in work: trying to finish the new k chronicles collection (“the passion of the keef”), a multi-page story for an anthology put out by chronicle books, and the community-based art graphic novel i’ve been working on for five(!) years…

i did make it to one party..and that’s last gasp’s annual holiday party. man..there ain’t no better party that the shin-dig mr. ron turner puts on over in last gasp’s mission district warehouse. he’s got this incredible collection of sideshow/freakshow posters. old pinball machines. a two-headed goat. tons o’ beer and wine, most righteous grooves, and the best little burrito’s money can’t buy!!

the best thing about it are the people in attendance. it really is a who’s who of fantastic san francisco underground culture. spain. charles gatewood. winston smith. chuck sperry. trina robbins. warren hinckle. paul mavrides. hal robbins. kent myers. andrice arp. ed rosenthal. harmon leon. bucky sinister. these were just a few of the folks who were in attendance last night.

and i just get blotto.

*MAGAZINES THAT I’M IN THIS MONTH:

there’s a nice little article about me in this month’s crisis magazine, the naacp’s official publication. also, this month’s utne reader named me and several other folks “cartoonists on the rise” or “cartoonists to watch out for”, or something like that.

*I’M GOING TO FRANCE!!

the reason i’m working so hard through the holidaze is cause i’m going to paris just after the new year. i don’t want to have anything to worry about work-wise while i’m there, so i’m just cranking scheisse out (and learning french via cd-oui!!). if anybody knows of any cool stuff in paris, please email me and let me know about it.

ciao!!

*THIS MISSIVE IS FROM THE CRACK EMCEE, AN AMAZING FELLOW MUSICIAN HERE IN SAN FRANCISCO …

one of my best friends, Lloyd Francis, is

riskin’ his life shooting photos for The Army Times.

And he’s been gettin’ some really, really chilling

stuff. Click on the “Frontline Photos” link and see

what he’s up to – anything with “L.Francis” under it

is his:

http://armytimes.com/

Rolling back a bit, when I was in France, I met a

really good DJ that I think most of you will like. He

goes by the name of “L’Amateur” but he’s a pro all the

way. Really good and funky mixes – even for a French

guy:

http://www.nulog.com/djs3.php?id=8

Because of my friend, John Knect, I had a (very small)

hand in a new HP Ipod commercial that’s showin’ up

everywhere. Here’s a link so you can see why:

http://www.hp.com/hpinfo/newsroom/hpads/you/music/index.html

Donnell Alexander’s excellent book, “Ghetto

Celebrity”, was just released in paperback. I do

several walk-ons in it but the sex, and drugs, are the

real stars. Pick up a copy for the bus:

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/140005298X/ref=lpr_g_1/102-4611569-8963367?v=glance&s=books

K.U.S.F.’s Josh Wilson wrote a really nice piece,

about “That San Francisco Sound”, that mentions my

work, with the Broun Fellinis, as a major influence.

You can read it here:

http://www.sfbg.com/39/09/cover_noise_joshwilson.html

Oh! – speakin’ of Broun Fellinis – Kevin Carnes, my

favorite drummer in the whole wide world, has a new

website up. And he even put two of my rockin’ Little

White Radio tracks on it. Smoke a joint before you pay

a visit. That’s a warning:

http://www.stylusquo.com/ This is my sister’s website. Musicians – click on the

resume’ and eat your heart out:

http://www.marvaholiday.com/

My (sometime) writing home, Better Propaganda, has

just passed their one-year Anniversary. It’s a great

site for getting free music:

http://betterpropaganda.com/

I, finally, got “Rap’s Creation” in Tower – you pay in

Tower:

http://www.towerrecords.com/product.aspx?pfid=CDB0448110012

And, finally, I’ve attached a copy of “The Message”, a

new little ditty I did (with Mark Pistel of

Consolidated) as kind of a Holiday gift to the world.

Send it to someone you love.

Happy Chanukah – and Christmas – to you all,

-CMC

*THANKSGIVING HOLIDAY WRAP-UP..

aahhh…back from trippin’ on the east coast..and what a time it was!!

cheers to everybody who came out to my signings in boston and n.y.c.

-the million year picnic (99 mt. auburn st.) signing in harvard square was nice..with a visit from a few of my salem state college pals from waaay back..

-the zeitgeist gallery event was cool..jef czekaj’s band was quite swanky..folks in the audience included fellow cartoonist michaela reid, old salem state college comrade and former wfnx dj chris kennedy, and my mom!!

-the jigsaw throwdown in n.y.c. was also good stuff. there was this one spoken-word dude who opened the event and was hilarious…i’m sorry i’m spacing on his name…also the proprietor, benjones, is quite a good singer/songwriter..go to jigsaw and buy stuff (526 11th st. in the east village)

new york is so great. i swear i’m gonna move there. heed my words!!

-i hit most of my food goals: pastrami at katz’s, lobster, steak and cheeandse sub, fried clams (with the bellies!!), dunkin’ donuts coffee, and a roast beef (sauce)..

-spent a decent amount of time interviewing family members who are 60 or older for a zine i’m putting together to give to family members for the holiday. i taped them talking about their family, childhoods, jobs and life experiences…it was extremely eye-opening and cool. i suggest you do this before folks are gone. you won’t regret it.

– i also saw “the incredibles”: TWICE. this movie is straight up the best film of the year. not just the best animated film. it’s brilliant. writer/director brad bird (he did “iron giant”, which is also great) is a genius.

AND i have a crush on mrs. incredible. her bottom is amazing!!

seeing this film will satisfy your need for quality filmmaking immensely. (see “sideways”, too)

*IF YOU WANT K CHRONICLES/(TH)INK PRODUCT DELIVERED BY X-MAS, PLEASE ORDER BY DEC. 15TH!!

and let me know if you need it signed to somebody..’kay?

allright..i promise to update the blog, weekly, again. i now know people do actually read it.

*I’M STILL ALIVE….

pardon the absence, folks…but like most folks..i needed to take in all the post-election stuff, filter out the krappe, and really try to figure out where folks like myself need to go from here.

first, the bright side of the election:

*our esteemed president will continue to provide plenty of material for this cartoonist and many others for years to come

*my latest book, “red, white, black and blue”, will still be valid for the next four years..

*if we didn’t bomb afghanistan and iraq, i probably wouldn’t be able to pick them out on a world map..i expect to learn where a coupla more countries are…thank you, mr. bush!! you really are the “edjamacation president”

the bad stuff doesn’t really need to be mentioned..everyone knows it exists..it’s just a matter of whether one cares or not…and i don’t think a lot of folks will care about it unless there’s a draft..a real chance that their lives will be directly affected.

*THANK YOU, SALT LAKE CITY!!

i’ve been really busy over the past few weeks…one of the things i did was a lecture on diversity at westminster college in salt lake city, ut.

the first thing i did when i got to campus was look for black folks. i couldn’t even find any at the basketball practice in the gym!! i checked the cafeteria and the maintenance crew. lots of brown folk..but no blacks.

salt lake is an interesting place. everyone is aware of the mormons and all. but not many are aware of this thing they have there called “sauce”…it’s a combination of ketchup and mayonnaise. they have it everywhere. they put it on sandwiches and french fries..they use it instead of baby powder. frightening, really.

anyhoo..the talk went really well. the 280 seat auditorium was full(with about 5 black folks)…due to the great coverage in the local press AND the fact that the salt lake city weekly, the city’s alternative voice, has been running “the k chronicles” for years.

some folks laffed. some folks left (after i showed my “smoking crack with gog” strip). i signed lots of books and then a couple of the black folks and a navajo deejay took me out fer some gumbo at a local new orleans themed bar. good stuff!!

thanks to everyone..’specially jeff, for bringing me out there.

are you a college student or administrator? BRING ME TO YOUR SCHOOL!! ask me how at keef@kchronicles.com

*EMAILS OF THE WEEK!! (concerning my red sox/sacrificed kitty strip)

1.Your cartoon of Nov. 3rd, depicting you gleefully shoving a cat into an oven as a “sacrifice” for a baseball victory, was stupid, inhumane, and an invitation to kids to try the same thing. Thanks a lot- we don’t have enough mindless cruelty in this world, so you have to supply some more! I’m not a cat lover, but you don’t have to be one to be disgusted by this. Where are your brains, you asshole???

2.Hello,

I was outraged and offended by your cartoon published in the Nov. 3 — Nov. 9 issue of Pacific Sun. You seem to believe that your description of an act of terrible cruelty towards a cat is funny. I disagree. In fact, such act would be punishable under California law. At any rate, depicting such act was totally unnecessary and in bad taste.

In my mind all kinds of exploitation, contempt, disrespect and discrimination are interconnected. They may be directed against a race, a gender, or against animals, but it is all the same. I understand that you are of African ancestry. I think you would be outraged if someone joked about “lynching a nigger” and take it personally. In the same way I am personally insulted by your insensitive joke about baking a cat alive.

3.Hi Keef,

My cat Bucky and I are NOT amused. Please don’t joke about drowning cats in dishwashers. There is MORE than enough REAL animal abuse out there!

Glad you were happy with the Red Sox win. Wish there was ANOTHER win we could celebrate.

(my only disappointment with the strip is the reader above thought it was a dishwasher..-k)

(#4 was written by the person who wrote #1..good stuff!!-k)

4.Please forgive my angry email from yesterday. I still think your Nov. 3 cartoon was somewhat ill-advised, but I’m sure you didn’t intend to incite any cat-roasting urges. After working so hard to try to restore some sanity to the government, and failing, I went a bit nuts myself for a couple of days. If any stupid, cruel kids out there want to try roasting a cat, well, my guess is that their parents voted for Bush…..

*LAST MARGINAL PROPHETS SHOW OF THE YEAR..

..happened last night with two bands: Abandon Theory and Tragedy Andy. they kicked ass. we kicked ass. wish somebody was there to see it.

but we sold an exorbitant amount of merch for such a small crowd …thanks!!

*BOSTON/NEW YORK DATES

tell all yer friends in boss-town and nyc that i’m coming in for the weekend. keep in mind that I WILL HAVE BOOKS AT ZEITGEIST, so if you miss the million year picnic signing earlier in the day, you can still get the goods later…

that’s it for now…
