*GOT THIS FROM MY FRIENDS AT THE MILL VALLEY LIBRARY (375 throckmorton ave.)

Keith,

Next Thursday, we’re presenting a program, entitled “Going Graphic – A

Novel Approach”, with guests Rory Root, from Comic Relief, and

Francisca Goldsmith. I was in Berkeley today, talking to Rory and your name

came up. He mentioned that you two go way back I was reminded of the

fabulous program and great attendance when you were here at the library.

I’m writing for two reasons: One, I’m wondering if you might be willing

to send a note to the many on your email list about our program, next

Thursday, 2/10 from 7-8:30. Obviously, do come yourself as well if

you’re interested. Second, I’d love to set up another program featuring

you, here at the library, perhaps sometime this summer. Hope all is well

with you and looking forward to connected with you again soon.

Thanks and warm regards,

Donna

*COMICS4COMICS:THE CARTOON ART MUSEUM FUNDRAISER 2/18 8pm

many of you know that i reside on san francisco’s world famous cartoon art museum. on friday evening, feb. 18, some of the bay area’s funniest comedians do their thing at the museum’s annual fundraising event. in addition to the laffs, there’ll be beer & wine, munchies, and a silent auction full of amazing art by some of today’s hottest cartoonists and comic book artists…and me. see http://www.cartoonart.org

*R.I.P. AFRICANA.COM

the end of january will signify the end of africana.com. africana.com was the reason why i started to do my single panel strip, (th)ink. there’s talk of the website merging with black voices (the black website run by aol.com), but from the word i got, (th)ink will not be making the move (at least for now). that means, you won’t be able to see (th)ink incolor for a while. but you can still see the black and white version at buzzle.com or blacknews.com.

i’d like to thank ken gibbs, my editor, and everyone else i met whenever i stuck my head in the offices during my trip back east. it was a fun ride…

QUICK SHOTS:

*i’ll be participating in a tribute to newspaper cartoonist morrie turner (“wee pals”) at the charles schulz museum on sat. feb 12 starting at noon.

*i’ll be doing a slideshow presentation at the san francisco art institute (800 chestnut st., san francisco) on thursday, feb. 17, @ 6pm. the event is free and open to the public….& i may have the new book by then.

IN MY MIX:

*sandwich from hell: pastrami, red pepper, pickles, tomato, marinated eggplant, with some sort of babaganoushie type sauce in a gigantic round bun that gets toasted..(found in the finkelstajn deli in the marais district, paris, france

*light, beautiful apple pie-like thing in the boulangerie closest to the st. paul metro stop, paris, france

*stuffed cat, seen in a small marais shop window, paris, france

*THIS IS GREAT..I WANNA MAKE A COMIC OUT OF IT..

Dear President Bush:

Congratulations on your victory over all us

non-evangelicals. Actually, we’re a bit ticked off here in

California, so we’re leaving.

California will now be its own country. And we’re taking

all the Blue States with us. In case you are not aware, that

includes Hawaii, Oregon, Washington, Minnesota, Wisconsin,

Michigan, Illinois, and all of the North East. We spoke to

God, and she agrees that this split will be beneficial to

almost everybody, and especially to us in

the new country of California. In fact, God is so excited

about it; she’s going to shift the whole country at 4:30 pm

EST next Friday. Therefore, please let everyone know they

need to be back in their states by then.

So you get Texas and all the former slave states. We get

stem cell research and the best beaches. We get Elliot

Spitzer. You get Ken Lay. (Okay, we have to keep the

Governor; we can live with that.) We get the Statue of

Liberty. You get OpryLand. We get Intel and Microsoft. You

get WorldCom. We get Harvard. You get Ole Miss. We get 85%

of America’s venture capital and entrepreneurs. You get all

the technological innovation in Alabama. We get about

two-thirds of the tax revenue, and you get to make the red

states pay their fair share.

Since our divorce rate is 22% lower than the Christian

coalition’s, we get a bunch of happy families. You get a

bunch of single moms to support, and we know how much you

like that. Did I mention we produce about 70% of the

nation’s veggies? But heck the only greens the

Bible-thumpers eat are the pickles on their Big Macs.

Oh yeah, another thing, don’t plan on serving California

wine at your state dinners. From now on it’s imported French

wine for you. Ouch, bet that hurts. Just so we’re clear, the

country of California will be pro-choice and anti-war.

Speaking of war, we’re going to want all Blue States

citizens back from Iraq. If you need people to fight, just

ask your evangelicals. They have tons of kids they’re

willing to send to their deaths for absolutely no purpose.

And they don’t care if you don’t show pictures of their

kids’ caskets coming home. Anyway, we wish you all the best

in the next four years and we hope, really hope, you find

those missing weapons of mass destruction. Seriously. Soon.

Sincerely,

California

*PARK CITY WRAP-UP..

my adventure in park city has come and gone. but it was quite good stuff. thanks to the freedom cinema fest for bringing me and the prophets up there..they’ve got a decent future once they work out all the bugs…

highlights include:

-meeting 2000 green party vice presidential candidate winona la duke. she was really cool and down to earth… AND she gave me a package of wild rice.

-prince paul’s (producer of de la soul’s “3ft. high and rising”, handsome boy modeling school) deejay set at the slamdance party, headlined by p-funk keyboardist bernie worrell, along with will calhoun and doug wimbish (living colour)…special guest: george clinton!!

-the documentary “murderball”..keep an eye out for this film..it’s about paraplegic rugby players…

-vegan and vegetarians cuisine by sage’s cafe, in salt lake city. check out this place..you will not be disappointed.

the low-light was the movie “hustle and flow”…this movie was the big success of sundance and scored the festival’s largest distribution deal in history. it’s the heart-warming story of a black pimp and his various hoes…and how he struggles to leave the biz by making gun and hoe rap.

good performances by the actors. pathetic stereo-types created by the writer/director.

expect a comic soon..

*GREETINGS FROM PARK CITY, UTAH…

okay…so here i am in film fest ground zero…besides sundance, there’s slamdance, two other smaller fests, and the one i’m involved with: the freedom cinema fest. the fcf is more of a leftie progressive fest, with films by greg palast and danny schecter. but it’s not all political stuff…i saw this short film “gay by dawn”, that was pretty funny, until the very end.

the parties? well..i’ve only been to one “hot” party, and frankly, these things are far more exciting from the outside looking in. the free tequila wasn’t bad, though…

haven’t seen any stars…but i was busy spreading the rumor that CHER was gonna show up and do a duet with michael franti at the free tequila party.

nice write-up in the salt lake city weekly for our show this saturday…..

cheers!!

*ANOTHER MISSIVE FROM GAY PAREE…

Hey,

Greetings from another Murcan in Paris … Loved your cartoon last Wednesday on the dogshit there!

I thought you might be interested to know that on the very same day your toon came up on Salon, an issue of “Charlie Hebdo” (a satirical weekly) came out with a cartoon on the same topic.

Translation: (1) There are so many turds in the streets of Paris …

(2) …that instead of “wipe your feet before coming in” …

(3) …they say “mop your feet!”

Kosmic Koincidence, eh? So it’s finally getting to the French. Now if only they would all fucking stop smoking in restaurants as well …

Best of luck,

–C

(man…i wish i knew how to load images on this thing..he sent this email with the comic attached)

*HOPE TO SEE SOME OF YOU IN PARK CITY THIS WEEKEND..

remember, i’ll be doing a slideshow this thursday, the 27th at 1pm. 333 main st. 2nd floor…and playing with the prophets on sat. at 9pm in the same location..
