Something we don’t bring up when we talk about “gang signs” is that back in the 1950s or thereabouts that’s how members of the Ku Klux Klan would acknowledge each other when they congregated in plain clothes. An example of this is cited in the book “Ruby McCollum: The Woman in the Suwannee County Jail” about a black woman who was almost railroaded to Death Row for killing the white man she’d been having an affair with.
OK, I’ll try and get a handle on my “history geek” impulses now…..
Yo, that cat on the hatemail tip you caught from this;
1) He DOES know how to READ, RIGHT?
2) He DOES know yer Black, YES?
3) He DOES understand POINTED SOCIO-POLITICAL HUMOR, correct?
…not so much (lol!).
My, that *is* subtle. (Can you really say “thug” in a family newspaper?)

As usual Keef, right on. Next time I’m in LA, we’re drinking, you hear!!??
So, I’m guessing advising you to lighten up, Keef, would not be the right response.
