EAST COAST SIGNINGS/LA BOOK RELEASE PARTY
Hey y’all–With suggestions from some of my Boston area homies, I have set up a series of signings coinciding with the release of the first Knight Life collection: the Knight Life, Chivalry Ain’t Dead, for my trip back east in early June. Here they be:
Thursday, June 3rd 7pm: FRANK E. CONVERSE LIBRARY-Malden, MA (36 Salem St.)
I will begin my Boston area book tour with a signing directly across the street from myold high school! I am psyched to be signing for my first collection of dailies at the place where I spent hours perusing Doonesbury and Peanuts collections as a kid. Not only that, but I was presented my first (and only) arts scholarship at the historic landmark, which was designed by architect H. H. Richardson. There’ll be a slideshow, Q & A, book signing, and then beers at the Dockside! Read more details here.
Saturday, June 5th 6pm: GULU-GULU CAFE- Salem, MA (247 Essex St.)
Next, I’ll be signing in the lovely town of Salem, Mass, home of my alma mater, Salem State College. It’ll be alumni weekend, AND the Salem Arts Festival that weekend, so there’ll be plenty of mischief going on. The Gulu-Gulu cafe looks like a place I would’ve spent most of my time in, had it been around back in the day. Joining me in this slideshow/book signing will be fellow SSC alum and award-winning cartoonist Mark Parisi!! Beers at Dodge Street following event.
Wednesday, June 9, 6-8pm MILLION YEAR PICNIC, Harvard Square, Cambridge, MA
I can’t make a trip to Boston without a signing at the finest comics emporium in the area, Million Year Picnic. At one signing, Cornel West was walking by outside the shop and my aunt stopped him and took his pic alongside my cousin. She never invited him in and I’m still bitter about it. At the last signing, a guy asked me how much my Knight Life originals were. I said “One twenty five.” He proceeded to take one dollar and a quarter out of his pocket to pay me.
What I’m saying is anything can happen at MYP, and it usually does. Beers at Shay’s after the event.
Saturday, June 12, 4pm NE Chapter of NCS Cartoonist Dinner, Johnny D’s Somerville, MA
I’m the guest of honor at this annual shin-dig put on by the New England Chapter of the National Cartoonists Society. It’s pretty elaborate with a great dinner, drinks and a presentation by yers truly. The event is open to cartoonists and aspiring cartoonists only. You don’t have to be a member of the NCS (you just pay a little more).
You gotta RSVP by May 28th, so send an email to lynn@offthemark.com asking for info.
*SUPER-FANTASTIC LOS ANGELES BOOK RELEASE PARTY!!
Thursday, June 24th 6-8pm-CONSERVATORY FOR COFFEE, Culver City, CA. (10117 Washington Blvd. across from Sony)
I’ll be doing a quite righteous book release party at the cafe where I draw most of my work: The Conservatory for Coffee in Culver City! This family-run, independent spot turned me from a tea drinker to a sometimes coffee drinker–it is truly the finest coffee in Los Angeles, and a great place to work.
My caffeinated mug shot is featured in the upcoming 2nd Artist Within collection of cartoonists in their studios by fine photog and all-around nice guy Greg Preston. He sez my shot in the Conservatory is not only his wife’s favorite shot, it’s the only one that’s not in a traditional studio or office.
Anyhoo..there’ll be a slide show, music, a book signing–and some cheap wine–so git yer butt over there. I don’t care how far you gotta drive!!
*I’M STILL WORKING ON MORE BOOK SIGNING EVENTS..ANY SUGGESTIONS?
I’m especially looking for places in the Bay Area, San Diego and Denver. Email me at keef@kchronicles.com!!
You’re coming all the way across the country and not coming to New York?
If you come to New York, I’ll buy you a latte!
I’ll be in New York in the fall.
Come to DC! ;)…Busboys & Poets would be perfect: http://www.busboysandpoets.com/
I JUST found out about your work (on a writer’s group for he Liberator mag). I’m a writer that can “draw a bit”, but I’ve been learning cartoo drawing lately with different books. I’ll get your new book (it’s more my speed than the stuff I have at home). Anyway, you got a new ‘fan’ (hate that word, lol…but whatever). Peace
Hey, Keef, will the signing at MYP include the slideshow/Q&A as well? That’s way more convenient for me — as in we can walk there from here — but if the Malden and Salem shows are the full enchilada, I’d rather go see one of them.
There’s also http://www.politics-prose.com/ in the DC area
Stewart,
Sorry it’s taken me so long to reply. MYP is just a signing. Malden and Salem are the full enchilada. Now only Salem is left.
Daki..
i would love to do Busboys and Poets, though last time I was there, I was given the cold shoulder.
Can you inquire on my behalf? I’ll be out there around SPX..
Oh well. A signing is good too. We’ll catch the slideshow next time you’re in town.

I’m doing Politics and Prose in September with Richard Thompson (creator of the wonderful “Cul De Sac”)
